Customer goes Beyond at Bed & Bath

As some of you may already know, we are renovating our sad little downstairs bathroom into a much happier one. In doing so, I have been in charge of the little final details... a towel bar, a shower curtain, shower curtain hooks. Fun fun fun. Today I want to the grand Bed, Bath & Beyond of Burlington (nice alliteration, huh?). There, I found all the things I needed, at slightly more than I wanted to pay.

Standing in line, resigned to the fact that my bill would be somewhere around $110 and trying to justify this cost in my head, the man standing in front of me turned, smiled and asked if I had a coupon. Dang! The coupon! We get one every three weeks or so at home. Of course I forgot to grab our latest installment before I left this morning. Sigh. "No, I left mine at home." To which the kind stranger replied, "I've got one for you." As he pulled out a large stack of clipped coupons. "Here's a good one." He said, handing me the one on top. Sure enough, it was. 20% off my whole purchase! That would help my mental accounting tremendously. Upon inspection of the coupon however, it clearly stated that it had expired. On 6/17/07. A year and a half ago. "Aw, thanks, but this is expired." I replied. With a smirk and a wink he retorted, "Don't worry, they'll take it."

Sure enough, at the register, I slid all my items up onto the counter and casually laid the expired coupon on top. Five little clicks of the barcode gun later, I was out the door having paid $89. Sweet!

"Thanks again for the coupon." I made a point of smiling at the nice man.
"Did it work?"
"Yup. No problem."
"Nice."

So, to the nice guy standing in front of me with a wad full of Bed, Bath & Beyond coupons, you're the best! And to Bed, Bath & Beyond, thanks for taking that guy's old coupons!
